Dear Mr. Kanungo,

I was very happy to read in the papers that you are coming down to Madras by the end of the year to pre- side over the Sadas of the Music Academy on the 1957 New Year's Day. I am very happy indeed to see friends of your eminence to associate with the Music Academy which is doing great work both in arranging performances of great artists and also in carrying out research work on Music. You will permit me to mention that I was privileged to inaugurate the session of the Music Academy as early as ten years ago and also to be associated with the Sadas sometime later.

I am delighted to hear of your visit to Madras on more counts than one. You will forgive me for re- questing you to drop in some time during your stay in Madras and see your ailing friend. I am still in bed as before, and I am .just carrying on, with faith in the Lord.

With Kindest regards Yours sincerely,

Dear Sir,

I am indeed a happy man despite my suffering and agony whenever friends and distinguished friends like your good self call at my bedside. It was in that frame of mind that I received you the other day when you were kind enough to call on me.

You might remember that even during that kind and courtesy visit that you made, I tried to 'utilize' your presence and make a request or two to you in person. One of these requests, you might remember, was the question of the establishment of some production unit near about my College Campus at Karalkudi. You were then receptive and kindly directed me to get into touch with Mr. Govinda Menon of this Region and then send up proposals to you. I am happy to state that Mr. Govinda Menon himself was kind enough to call on me a couple of days ago, and naturally I discussed this proposal in some detail. I suggested to him whether it. will be possible to locate a production unit near about my campus under the scheme worked out for the educated unemployed. There are nearly 3000 students in our campus, with six colleges and with different Faculties like its, Science, Commerce, Teaching, Physical Education, Engineering and Polytechnic. Mr. Govinda Menon said that the Ministry were considering proposals to establish workshops for the Educated Unemployed and that the locations for such workshops have not been fixed.

I do not know sufficient details to give you. In fact, it must be the other way round: I must get the details from your Ministry. I will just con- tent myself by appeallngto you to locate one of these units near about my Campus for which we will give the necessary land and your Ministry can make a reference to Mr. Govinda Menon regarding the suitability of this place. I shall be grateful if you could kindly consider my request in the background of the thousands of students who pass through our college campus year after year and do whatever is possible.

I count myself really unfortunate in that I am not able to do anything myself excepting requesting, or rather, even embarrassing affectionate friends like you. Anyway, it is that which keeps me somewhat happy despite my serious illness.. I await your kind reply.

With Kindest regards Yours sincerely,

Sd...RM.Alagappa Chettiar
