Dear Alagappa Alumni and Friends
With great pleasure we recently celebrated the 100th birthday of Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. His life was full of accolades and accomplishments as he passionately converted a 1000 acre parcel of jungle into a galaxy of educational institutions in Karaikudi. He passed away at a tender age of 48, in the midst of single handedly revolutionizing his native place by bringing professional education to the door step of his community. Perhaps his crowning piece of philanthropy was giving away his own residence in Kottaiyur to found the Alagappa Women’s college. As Sir C. Rajagopalachari remarked, "Dr. Alagappa Chettiar had given away freely. Students should develop that quality namely giving money earned for charity. Here is a book of life and students can learn from him on how one can give to good cause, cultivate courage and emulate the Spirit of Dr. Alagappa Chettiar."
The Alagappa Institutions have contributed significantly for the growth of the intellectual capital of global community through its meaningful and dedicated service over a period of more than 50 years by producing more than 250,000 alumnae. Today our Alumnae are serving the world community in many ways as Political Leaders, Businessmen, Industrialists, Entrepreneurs, Teachers, Scientists, Engineers, Technocrats, and more. We understand well that Alumni are vital stakeholders and can play a key role in the execution of the mandate of Institutional Development and perceive them as a valuable resource to grow the institutions.
We are aware that there are various chapters of Alumnae representing various Alagappa institutions in various batches that meet from time to time. We would like to harness all those energies and goodwill and channel it through The Alagappa Alumni Association dedicated to students of all Alagappa Institutions who have studied in primary, secondary schools, the various Alagappa Colleges and the University that will provide a forum to meet, enable get togethers, exchange ideas and stimulate alumni participation and contributions in a larger scale for the Institutional Development of Alagappa Group of Institutions.
We are initiating this first meeting on Saturday, December 4th at 4.00 PM in Chennai at the Alagappa Schools at 49 Gangadheeswarar Road, Puraswalkam. We invite you to participate, support and offer your suggestions constructively as to how we can enhance our infrastructure and the quality of education and as well how to make this Alumni Association an active social network for our Alumnae.
