Alagappa Alumni meet
(Alumane of all Alagappa institutions including schools, colleges, university)

In the twilight hours on 4 December 2010 almost 250 members of various Alagappa institutions got together to launch the Chennai Chapter of the Alagappa Alumni Association. It was a momentous and joyous occasion as school mates and college mates reunited and bonded as they caught up on the past years.

The meeting started with a power-point presentation profiling the accomplishments of our revered founder and the evolution of the multitude of institutions that he had founded. Mr. R. Vairavan, the grandson of Dr. Alagappa Chettiar and Chairman of the Association addressed the congregation and spoke about the legacy of Alagappa in Karaikudi and Chennai. He spoke about the technological advancements introduced in the school through the installation of digital boards, Wi-Fi, Text Messaging & school bus etc. He also elucidated the proposal for the construction of a new block for the primary wing and an indoor auditorium to keep in sync with the changing times. Speeches by Alumni K. Ilayaraja, year (1985 batch) currently serving as a journalist, Raaj Kumar,(1989 batch) Media person and properties consultant, Raja (1988 batch) Corporate steel, Dilip Nair, (1992 batch) Executive head, Tata concern, Mohammed Thameem, (1989 batch) serving with Kingfisher Airways, and a few others shared sentiments about the great times they had went they were at school and the unforgettable memories of friends and faculty which they will cherish forever.

Elections of office bearers was conducted by the Electoral officer, Mr. S. Amarnath, former SPL, Alagappa schools (1987 batch) and currently serving g as the Correspondent of the reputed S.A. Engineering College on the Poonamalle high Road.

The elected members for the year 2010 -2011 are
a. President – Mr. Raaj Kumar former school pupil leader,
b. Secretary – Mr. Mohammed Thameem.
c. Treasurer – Mr. Dilip Nair.

Various Alumni members contributed generously and subsequent meetings were planned.

The Alumni meet 2010 was a grand success and we hope to stage many more meetings across the world and hope to see you that we grow in strength at the next alumni meet!

 

Cheques can also be made out to The Alagappa Foundation Inc. a registered, non-profit organization in the US. All donations in the USA are tax exempt from Federal Income Tax under section 501 (a) of the IRS code and mailed to 1647 Andorre Glen, Escondido, CA 92029, USA. The Asoka Charitable Trust is a trust that was founded by Dr. Alagappa Chettiar manages the Alagappa Schools. All donations are tax exempt under Section 80G vide department order No2.(541)/2001-2002 Dated 25.02.2009 of I.T. Act. (Address: 49, Gangadeeswarar Koil Street, Purasawalkam, Chennai -600084.) Enquiries were on the date of the subsequent meetings of the Association and this would be taken at the official meeting of the association to be held in the third week of December.
